GHRP-2 is a hexapeptide, D-Ala-D-2-Nal-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH₂, from the family of growth hormone-releasing peptides that grew out of the work of Cyril Bowers in the 1980s, before ghrelin itself was discovered. These synthetic peptides led to the identification of the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a), later shown to be the ghrelin receptor.
