About Thymosin Alpha-1
Thymosin alpha-1 was first isolated from thymosin fraction 5, a calf thymus extract, and later shown to be the N-terminal fragment of the larger protein prothymosin alpha. It is 28 amino acids long with an acetylated N-terminus; the synthetic peptide carries the international nonproprietary name thymalfasin.
Despite the shared name, it is structurally unrelated to thymosin beta-4 (TB-500). The thymosins are a historical grouping of thymus-derived peptides, not a single protein family.
