About Selank
Selank consists of tuftsin, the immunomodulatory tetrapeptide Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg from the heavy chain of immunoglobulin G, extended with Pro-Gly-Pro at the C-terminus. The Pro-Gly-Pro addition slows enzymatic breakdown, the same strategy used in Semax.
It was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which also developed Semax.
Research context
Selank is studied in research on neuropeptide modulation of behavior in rodent models, GABAergic signaling, monoamine and BDNF expression and immune-related gene expression. Most of the literature comes from Russian research groups.
