About Semax
Semax is built from the ACTH(4-7) sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe, which has no activity at the adrenal ACTH receptor, followed by Pro-Gly-Pro, a tripeptide that protects it from rapid degradation. It was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Because it lacks the adrenal-stimulating part of ACTH, it is studied for central nervous system effects rather than corticosteroid release.
Research context
Semax is studied in research on BDNF and neurotrophin expression, cerebral ischemia models and neuropeptide effects on attention and memory tasks in rodents. Analogues such as Adamax and combinations such as the Selank + Semax blend derive from it.
