About Kisspeptin-10
The KISS1 gene encodes a precursor processed into kisspeptins of 54, 14, 13 and 10 amino acids. All share the C-terminal RF-amide sequence that activates the kisspeptin receptor, KISS1R (also called GPR54); kisspeptin-10 is the shortest fully active form.
KISS1 was first described as a metastasis suppressor gene, which is why kisspeptin-54 is also called metastin. Its role in reproduction emerged in 2003, when loss-of-function mutations in GPR54 were linked to absent puberty.
