About Epitalon
Epitalon, also spelled Epithalon, is a four-amino-acid peptide, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, developed at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology by Vladimir Khavinson's group. It was designed as a synthetic counterpart to epithalamin, a peptide extract of the pineal gland.
It is the most widely cited of the Khavinson short peptides, a series that also includes Pinealon, Cortagen and Cardiogen, each associated with a particular tissue.
Research context
Epitalon is studied in research on telomerase activity and telomere length in cultured cells, pineal function and melatonin rhythms, and chromatin and gene-expression changes associated with cellular aging. Much of the literature comes from the originating group, so independent replication is limited.
