About GHK-Cu
GHK, glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine, is a tripeptide found in human plasma, saliva and urine. It was identified in 1973 by Loren Pickart and binds copper(II) ions with high affinity; the copper complex is known as GHK-Cu.
Its sequence occurs within extracellular-matrix proteins such as collagen, so GHK is often described as a matrikine: a fragment released from the matrix that carries signaling activity of its own. In ingredient nomenclature it appears as copper tripeptide-1.
Research context
GHK-Cu is studied in research on collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis by fibroblasts, extracellular-matrix remodeling, copper transport and gene-expression profiling, in cell culture and skin models.
It is also the largest component by mass of the GLOW and KLOW blends.
