About Adipotide (FTPP)
Adipotide combines two functional parts. A cyclic homing motif, CKGGRAKDC, binds prohibitin, a protein displayed on endothelial cells of the blood vessels that supply white adipose tissue. It is joined to a D-amino-acid (KLAKLAK)₂ sequence that disrupts mitochondrial membranes once internalized, triggering apoptosis of the targeted endothelial cells.
The compound came out of in vivo phage-display work that mapped molecular “addresses” on the blood vessels of different tissues.
Research context
Adipotide is studied in research on vascular targeting and adipose tissue biology. Published work, including a primate study reported in 2011, examined how selectively ablating adipose vasculature affects fat mass and metabolic parameters in animal models.
